Sophie loves to talk. She wants to resolve issues, especially the constraints on her life. Kommandant Schmidt and his wingman Major Hofer enjoy private conversations with her. She asks them why they allow this and is told they appreciate her sharp mind and assessments. So talk she does, with honesty, and that in turn pricks their conscience and makes them uncomfortable. She tells them she has a war plan: she may lose some battles but in the end, will win the war. Both men assume correctly this concerns them and takes her threat seriously. Really? She’s on house arrest and has no contact with the war outside. One should never discount a very perceptive woman with a heart yearning for justice and a belief that being honestly vulnerable will overcome the most jaded and oppressed heart.
