Writers often employ certain techniques to their writing to keep readers engaged or emphasize a particular concept.
Lizzie has a brief visual perception of an old book which is a foreshadowing of a family mystery… “The spidery script and images are illegible, but she faintly sees families and tribes. It seems as though the perpetual movement of time, like the sea, refuses to give up its dead.”
A second time, later, Lizzie sees the book again, the picture slightly more legible, clans welcoming long lost kinfolk…
This family mystery is slowly being revealed for Lizzie. Finally, the enigma is disclosed, “The script and images are clear as Father Time holds out his arms in welcome. Lizzie knows she has traveled into another world and now resides in her native land.” Oftentimes we see mind pictures generally from past times but on rare occasions we may see something that may suggest a future event. It does not need to give us apprehension; nevertheless it should be reflected upon.
